How to Become a Hip Hop Dancer (3 Golden Rules)

"Dance is a delicate balance between perfection and beauty." - Anon
Hip Hop dancing is fun and easy to learn. The hard part is becoming absolutely amazing. This takes desire, discipline, and dedication (3 D's). Just know that professional dancers are still improving everyday to perfect their craft because there is always room for improvement. For now, I'll focus on the basic aspect of how to become a hip hop dancer.
How to Become a Hip Hop Dancer:
1. Watch Hip Hop Dance
This seems like a no brainer, but it's amazing how a lot of people forget how important this aspect is. Watch hip hop dancing videos as much as you can in your free time. Youtube is the obvious source as it contains millions of these.
There are also a lot of new dance shows on TV, such as America's Best Dance Crew, So You Think You Can Dance, and countless others. Watch and be inspired.

2. Take Classes (Instructional Videos or Studio Classes)
Expose yourself to actual learning by taking classes at your nearby studio. If you cannot go to a studio or want to spend less money, then I suggest you buy the videos that I've recommended in the "How to Hip Hop Dance Videos" section at the top of the page.
Practice at least 30 minutes a day, although I recommend 1 hour. Not only are you getting an amazing cardio workout, but you're improving your knowledge and breadth of dancing itself.
So take classes and/or learn from the instructional DVD's. Eventually, you'll figure it out and be able to incorporate your own moves from the combination of steps 1 and 2.
3. Practice, practice, practice
The most important step of the 3 golden rules is to practice. With anything that you are just learning, you must practice if you want to get better. No one becomes a good dancer in a few days or weeks. Some fast learners will improve in less than one year and even in months, but from my experience it takes years if you want to see that amazing jump in improvement.
Don't be discouraged! If your goal is to just learn and not become a professional dancer, then you don't have to practice so intensely.
